Skateboard
A skateboard is essentially a plank of wood to which wheels are attached. The wheels are attached via a set of “trucks”, which act as an axle and a steering mechanism. They are what allow the skater to turn by simply leaning in the direction he/she wishes to go.
A skateboard can be found in numerous sizes and designs. While today’s “freestyle” boards are preferred by most street and ramp skaters, this wasn’t always the case. Early boards were much longer and wider, which also made them much heavier. There have also been many experiments with different types of wood, as well as alternative materials such as plastics and foam.
A skateboard can also be a medium for self-expression. Many riders prefer to buy “blanks” and then design their own artwork. Others will often search through many different decks before they settle on one that they like. You can also buy kits and put them together yourself , instead of getting complete skateboards.
