Skate Decks

Skate decks started out as nothing more than a plank of wood. Originally, they were simply a way for local surfers to occupy themselves during periods of low tide. It wasn’t until the 1960’s that these decks were actually mass produced.

During the 1970’s, skateboarding became more popular as its own unique activity. As a result, skate decks began to be seen in more and more locations across the country. While this is largely considered the era of the “banana board” (a small, narrow plastic board), wider boards were also introduced during this time.

During the 1980’s, and into the 1990’s, skateboarding evolved into a million dollar industry. Skate decks evolved into the modern designs, which allowed skaters to perform vastly more complex tricks. This was true for those that rode ramps and those that were street riders.
